The Chop Shop — Buy, Sell, Hire

Marketplace help

The marketplace is in preview. The three example adverts are fictional. They cannot be purchased or booked. Public selling, payments and buyer messages are awaiting activation.

Buying equipment

What should I check before paying?

Inspect the actual equipment, confirm who owns it, ask about service history and known faults, and agree in writing on what is included. Match the model and serial details with the actual item. Avoid paying a deposit just because someone says there is another buyer.

The Chop Shop does not currently collect equipment purchase payments, hold deposits or provide buyer protection. An account badge is not an inspection or guarantee of the equipment.

What do the prices mean?

Prices are in Australian dollars. Read the advert’s GST information and confirm the total payable with the seller, including delivery or other agreed costs. The example adverts show whether GST is included or not applicable.

Selling equipment

How do I prepare an advert?

Choose Sell equipment, add your own photos, and type or dictate the details. Include the make, model, age, hours, condition, faults, service history, price and suburb. You can write it yourself. AI assistance, when available, produces a draft for you to check.

Save a local draft or download the text. Account saving becomes available after account storage is activated and you have completed your profile. Saving, submitting for review and paying a listing fee are separate steps; none should be mistaken for public publication.

What photos should I use?

Use clear photos of the actual item: all sides, controls, hour meter, accessories and damage. Up to 12 photos can be attached; the first is the cover. Equipment and profile photos use public media links once uploaded, so do not include identity documents, payment details, a home address or anything private. Keep the originals on your device.

What can’t be listed?

Do not list stolen goods, anything you are not authorised to sell, or misleading claims. Used ropes, harnesses, lanyards, fall-arrest devices and other equipment intended to protect a person from a fall are prohibited by this marketplace’s policy.

Equipment listings are not inspected or certified by The Chop Shop. Buyers must check suitability, condition and manufacturer instructions.

Hiring equipment

What should the hire advert include?

State the daily and weekly rates, GST treatment, wet or dry hire, operating requirements, location, availability, minimum hire period, delivery charges, bond, fuel, cleaning, damage, insurance, cancellation and late-return terms.

Confirm the dates and a written hire agreement with the owner before collecting equipment. An enquiry does not reserve equipment. The marketplace does not currently take bookings, bonds or hire payments.

Accounts and messages

How do verification and messaging work?

Email sign-in uses a link sent to your inbox. Mobile and seller identity verification are being connected. Submitting a name or ABN does not verify identity. Once messaging is activated, conversations are restricted to their participants and you can block a member. Email alerts are not currently enabled.

How is AI used?

Your draft is saved in your browser. Browser dictation may use your device or browser provider. When AI is available, new microphone recordings are sent for transcription after you stop; saved voice notes are sent only when you choose Transcribe. Creating an AI advert sends your description and compressed equipment photos to OpenAI. Review the result for mistakes. Nothing is published automatically.

Where can I get support?

The operator’s support contact and final terms and privacy policy will be added before public trading opens. During this preview, send feedback through the conversation where this website was shared with you. Do not send identity or banking documents.
